Melvin “Houston” Reed, 95, of Jimtown, OK passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022 at his residence. He was born May 28, 1926 in Jimtown, the son of Vasker and Lillie (Reed) Reed.
 
Houston was a lifelong area resident and he attended Jimtown schools. He married the love of his life Floye McDonald on September 14, 1946 in Gainesville, TX. Floye preceded him in death ten days after celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary. Houston was a farmer and cattle rancher. He loved spending time on the farm and never wanted to leave unless Floye made him. Houston was a member of the Leon Baptist Church. He did a lot of work for the church in his younger years. Houston loved music and was an excellent guitar player. He was a devoted family man.   
 
Survivors include his daughters, Charlene Frazier and husband Jimmie of Leon, and Dian Crider of Dickson, OK; daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Reed of Jimtown; grandchildren, Kevin Frazier of Leon, Damon Frazier of Lone Grove, OK, Josh Crelia of Fayetteville, AR, Amber Robertson of Marietta, OK, Travis Reed of Jimtown, and Colton Reed of Jimtown; and five great-granddaughters.
 
In addition to his wife and parents, Houston was preceded in death by son, Devon Reed; brother, Heston Reed; and son-in-law, Johnny Crider.
 
Graveside services for Houston will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Leon Cemetery with Larry Hicks officiating. Visitation will be Sunday at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Marietta from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
 
Casket bearers are Kevin Frazier, Damon Frazier, Travis Reed, Colton Reed, Elvis Reed, and Crook Burton. Honorary bearers are Chris McMahon, Mike Wilkerson, and F.S. Mapp.
