Head-on collision kills two
Two people are dead annd one injured after a collision on Highway 32
approximately seven miles west of Marietta.
On Thursday, May 11, at 8:35 p.m., Love County E-911 dispatchers began receiving calls from people at Turner Schools reporting a reckless driver who had passed by the school headed east on Highway 32. According to the reports, a pickup driven at a high rate of speed was swerving from shoulder to shoulder.
Law enforcement officers were immediately paged out.
Just minutes later, roughly .4 mile west of Indian Meridian Road, about 3.5 miles east of Turner Schools, that vehicle, a 2022 Silverado pickup truck, driven by Billie J. Snyder, 62, of Burneyville, went left of center and struck a 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck traveling westbound driven by Gregory O. Parker, 60, of Wilson.
Beginning at 8:44, county first responders were paged out. Jimtown, Eastman, and Red River Fire Departments were paged out, however, when Tracy Walker of EMS Command arrived, he called in additional manpower and tools.
At 9:09 p.m., nine firefighters with the Marietta Fire Department arrived on the scene with hydraulic extrication tools.
"Sadly, extrication efforts were initially delayed by the lack of proper equipment and the lack of responding firefighters," said Love County Emergency Management Assistant Director David Bond. "Because the collision was almost head-on with most damage concentrated on the driver's side of the vehicles, extrication tools were necessary to remove both drivers from the wreckage."
Both drivers were pinned for approximately 40 minutes.
Parker was pronounced deceased at the scene by Oklahoma Medical Examiner John Miller due to injuries sustained in the collision.
Snyder was pronounced deceased on Friday morning due to injuries sustained in the collision.
Parker's wife, Monica Parker, 59, of Wilson, was transported to Mercy Hospital Ardmore and later transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where she was treated and released with head and arm injuries.
According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Parker's condition was apparently normal, while Snyder's is under investigation. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
