Imogene Morton Palmer, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 20, 2021. A lifelong resident of Love County, she was residing at the Wilson Nursing Center and passed away at Mercy Hospital, Ardmore. Imogene was known for her love of the Lord, children, her cats, her family, and friends. Imogene lived a simple life with lots of hard work. She cleaned houses, ironed clothes, gardened, and cooked at the Leon School for many years. She also worked at the Cookie Shop in Marietta. Imogene retired from Turner Schools at the age of 82, where she worked with children with additional needs, loving them just like her own. She accepted whatever came her way as God's will, experiencing many joys and blessings in her life, as well as lots of sadness and pain.

Imogene was born to the late Haskell and Annie Walker Morton on December 26, 1929 in Simon. Her mother passed away July 6, 1932, when she was only two years old, so she was raised by her grandmother and granddad, Charlie and Zue Gray Morton. Imogene was raised as an only child, yet she had many cousins to grow up with. At the young age of 16, she married the love of her life, Peyton Palmer, and to this union were born four children, Savanna, Darlene, Dale, and Dewayne.

Imogene is survived by daughters, Savanna Slawson and husband Montie of Thackerville and Darlene Hutchins of Wilson; son, Dale Palmer and wife Roberta of Ardmore; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Haskell Dewayne "Peabody" Palmer; a great-grandson, CPL. Clinton Coy Blodgett; and sons-in-law, Charles Blodgett and Pat Hutchins.

Serving as pallbearers are Montie Slawson, Jr., Lynn Slawson, Trace Palmer, Russell Robertson, Bret Robertson, Donnie Reed, and Carroll Flatt. Honorary pallbearers are Oma Ruth Davis Alexander, Sue Taliaferro, Rae Alma Mapp, Marsha Higgins, Jo Coyle, and Linda Tynes.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta with Brother Jimmy May officiating. Interment will follow at the Leon Cemetery.
