Graveside services for Porter J. Buchanan, 78, of Marietta were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 10, at the Leon Cemetery, Leon, with Allen Woody officiating.
Born February 12, 1929, in Flomot, Texas, the son of Porter and Jewell Walker Buchanan, he died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at his residence in Marietta.
A resident of Love County since 1967, he moved here from Dimmitt, Texas. He and Margie M. Studer were married November 22, 1950, in Clovis, New Mexico. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Buchanan served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945 to 1947. He served in the South Pacific in the Mop Up Operation and was honored for his marksmanship. A retired carpenter/millwright, Mr. Buchanan was a member of the Local Carpenters Union #793. He also served as a Reserve Deputy under Sheriff Marvin Wade. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. Mr. Buchanan was a member of the Marietta Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Margie M. Buchanan of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, June and David Kerr of Marietta; a sister, Marie Hicks of Broken Arrow; three grandchildren, Leanne and John Martin of Ardmore, Amy and Mike Worsham of Sherman, Texas, and A.J. And Josh Pearman of Thackerville; four great-grandchildren, Billy Smith, Vanidy Martin, Mikael Ann Worsham and Cara Worsham; and a great-great-grandchild, Drake Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, A.C. Lewis and Earl Buchanan; a son, Billy Max Buchanan on December 26, 2005; half-brothers, Hershel, Alfred and Buster Buchanan; and half-sister, Mary Buchanan.
Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons and grandsons-in-law, and Mike Hallum.
