A bit of history about him is that he was a surgeon during the Civil War. He acquired cattle as payment for his doctoring services when patients could not pay him in monies. He, with wife and 5 children drove the cattle from Kentucky to Indian Territory just south of the Red River (now Texas) in 1872 for the grasses. Had 8 more children (Yikes!) then moved his entire family north of the Red River (now Oklahoma) in 1889 settled and died there at age 53 of pneumonia. His wife and most all of the children lived long lives!
