Peggy Marie Stafford, 88, of Norman passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in Norman, Oklahoma.

She was born at home and delivered by her grandfather, David Autry, July 15, 1924 to Omri “Bud” and Maggie B. Autry in Marietta, Oklahoma.

Peggy’s story began in kindergarten in the Marietta Schools and it was also where she graduated in 1942. She later helped in the Ration Office and worked as a legal secretary while James Strafford served his country in the Army Air Corp during WWII.  Peggy and James met and were married after WWII in 1945 and moved to Norman to raise their family. Peggy enjoyed her busy lifestyle as a Band Mom and loved to participate with school outings. She has enjoyed several different hobbies like collecting cookbooks, playing cards, bingo and watching a good movie.  She found solace in playing the piano and prided herself in the ability to write in short hand.  After she raised her family, Peggy and James became very involved in their grandchildren’s lives. Often times Peggy and James would take their grandchildren out for ice-cream. Peggy enjoyed being an active member of the First Baptist Church of Norman were she taught Sunday school to 3 year olds. Peggy enjoyed taking walks and eating out with her friends, but most of all she loved and enjoyed her family.

Peggy is survived by two daughters, Linda Grotte and husband Richard of Norman, OK and Claudia Price-Decker of Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren, Glenda Vassar, Heather Howard, James Brooks Howard, Shelly York and Marshall Drew-Price; many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, James “Jimmy” Stafford; a brother, David Autry; a sister, Jane Brannan; and one granddaughter, Mindy Miller.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2013 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Marietta Cemetery at 3:00PM in Marietta, Oklahoma.
Arrangements for Peggy Stafford and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family of Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
