Mrs. Sparks was born January 21, 1911, at Paris, Texas, the daughter of
George Washington and Sallie Austin Green. She died Tuesday, August 24,
2004, in Lake Country Nursing Center, Marietta.
She and John Gilbert Sparks were married September 28, 1944, in Love County. He preceded her in death on December 3, 1995.
A homemaker, Mrs. Sparks was a Baptist an attended
church at Bomar.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Willis Dee and Donna
Grantham of Ardmore and Gilbert Lee Sparks of Marietta; three daughters
and son-in-law, Augustine Vaughn, Barbara Brewer and Linda and Melvin
Mayes, all of Marietta; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sparks was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Leta
Mae Baker on September 26, 1995; two grandsons, Gerald Wayne Baker and
Arnold Eugene Baker; two great-granddaughters, Lisa Marie Baker and
Holly Baker; a brother, Earl Lloyd Green; three sisters, Della, Goldie
and Effie; three half brothers, Marvin J. Powell, Marion Eldridge
Powell, and Verbie “Bud” Powell; a half sister, Leta Myrtle; and a
son-in-law, Wallace Vaughn.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Lake Country Nursing Center
staff and Royal Crest Hospice staff.
