Services for George M. Roberson Jr., 81, a longtime Pauls Valley resident, were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 8, at Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance, Pauls Valley, with Bro. Tim Bowen officiating.

Interment was at 3 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.

Born October 14, 1925, in Marietta, the son of George M. and Velma L. Mathews Roberson, he died Wednesday, September 5, 2007, in Burleson, Texas. A 1944 graduate of Marietta High School, Mr. Roberson served in the U.S. Navy and earned the rank of Gunner’s Mate Third Class. His tour of duty was from August 25, 1944 until his separation from the Navy on June 29, 1946. After his tour of duty, Mr. Roberson furthered his education by attending Southeastern State College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in industrial arts in 1951. He married Lena Fay Banks in Marietta on April 25, 1959. In the early 1950’s he taught shop in Claremore Schools and later moved to Paoli and then moved his family to Pauls Valley to make their home in 1965. For a time Mr. Roberson was a yard manager for an Oklahoma City lumber company as well as a wire line operator and truck driver for P.G.A.C. For over 20 years he worked with the Department of Human Services, where he served as a social worker until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Masonic Valley Lodge No. 6 in Pauls Valley and was just recently presented his 25-year pin. He earned his 32nd Degree in the Scottish-Rite in McAlester as well as the York-Rite in Norman, and later was initiated into the India Shrine. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Pauls Valley Chapter No. 183, Elks Lodge No. 1874 and American Legion Post No. 136. Mr. Roberson was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Pauls Valley.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Georgann and Tony Spivey and a grandson, Jeremy Spivey, all of Cleburne, Texas; two step-grandchildren, Tamara Spivey and Derrick Spivey; a brother, David Roberson of San Antonio, Texas; a nephew, James Andrew Culwell of Marietta; two nieces, Jan Collins of Arizona and Gaye Dewbre of Courtney; a grand-nephew, John Clifford Dewbre of Courtney; and cousins, Mary Frances Dunlap and Helen Kopf.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Lena Fay Roberson, on December 15, 2004.
