Services for Carl J. "Dude" Riley, 88, of Marietta, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 8, at Southwest Church of Christ in Marietta, with the Rev. Tom Riley and David Hand officiating.

Mr. Riley was born January 17, 1913, in Marietta, the son of Will and Jesse Rose Riley. He died Monday, November 5, 2001, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta. Mr. Riley lived in Love County most of his life, except for four years in Oklahoma City, when he was employed by Cassity Commission Company, and during the time he served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He and Joyce I. Ridley were married May 3, 1940, in Oklahoma City, and she preceded him in death August 13, 1998. A 1931 graduate of Marietta High School, Mr. Riley attended college and played football at Cameron State University in Lawton and graduated in 1933. In 1935 he graduated from Oklahoma A&M, Stillwater, where he also played football. Mr. Riley was a rancher, owned and operated a dairy and also served as Love County tax assessor. He was a member of the Burch Brothers Post of the American Legion, the Oklahoma Cattlemans Association and the Southwest Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Lynn Riley of Marietta; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jimmy Jones of Decatur, Texas; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Riley was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill Riley; two sisters, Rose Goins and Evelyn Williams; and a granddaughter, Heather Riley. Pallbearers were T.J. Riley, John Kennedy, Will Riley, Vance McGill, Jim Goins and Charles Williams.

Honorary pallbearers were Tup Robertson, Charles Lain, Claude Brannan and Raymond Coyle. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Mercy Health Love County, Marietta, c/o Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
