Graveside services for Opal Marie Hubbard Phelps Petree, 90, of Chickasha, were held at 1 p.m., Monday, July 30 in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.

Born July 19, 1917 in Marietta, the daughter of Lee and Asa Orr Hubbard, she died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, in Chickasha. Living in Love County for several years, Mrs. Petree moved to Brownfield, Texas and then to California. She ran away from home and married her first husband, Archie Phelps, the father of her five children. He preceded her in death in 1957, and she remarried in 1961 to John Petree.

He preceded her in death in 1968. In 1992, she moved to Chickasha to live with her son, Dale. Known as a “Marine Mama,” three of her four sons were in the Marine Corps.

Survivors include four sons and daughter-in-law, Bob and Dora Phelps of Del Rio, Texas; Dale Phelps of Chickasha; Bill and Judy Phelps of Perryton, Texas, and Don and Shari Phelps of Stillwater; and a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Charles Boatwright of Lexington.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister and a brother.
