Graveside services for Martha Neil McMeans, 82, of San Angelo, Texas, formerly of Marietta, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 8 in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.

Born July 19, 1937 at Ballinger, Texas, the daughter of Neil G. and Eugenia Suber McAlpine, she passed on to her heavenly home Thursday, December 12, 2019 at her residence. A graduate of Taylor High School in Taylor, Texas, she continued her education at Austin College in Sherman, Texas, earning a bachelor’s degree. Martha’s first teaching position was with the Thorndale I.S.D. in Thorndale, Texas and she finished 31 years of teaching in Lancaster, Texas for Lancaster I.S.D. While teaching in Lancaster, she earned a master’s degree in education from North Texas State University. Martha’s anchor in life was her Christian faith, which grew even stronger in her long battle with multiple sclerosis. Great was her faithfulness to her family and church. The highlight of Martha’s life was her marriage to Joe Ronald McMeans in 1973 and their life together for 46 years. Their vacationing time in Colorado brought her a great deal of enjoyment.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Eugenia McAlpine and her brother, Robert E. McAlpine.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Ronald McMeans; brother, Gene McAlpine and wife Karon; nieces, Lisa McAlpine and Shelly McAlpine Floyd; nephew, Robert Wade McAlpine and wife Jennifer; sister-in-law, Becky McMillion; great-niece, Abby McAlpine; and great-nephews, Riley Floyd and Barrett McAlpine.
