Austin Roy Hughes, lifelong resident of Marietta, OK, was born to Robert and Juanita “Wonnie” (Embry) Hughes on April 19, 1942, in Loves Valley. He passed away at his Marietta residence on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at the age of 81.

In Austin’s younger years, he attended Marietta schools and the Eastside Baptist Church. He enjoyed going camping in Lebanon. He had numerous loves, including watching football, WWE, his dogs, his cat, cooking a pot of stew or beans and telling everyone to come over and eat, being on his dozer, and spending time with his grandkids. Even with all the love for those, his all-time favorite thing was to grow a HUGE garden so he could give most of it away.

Austin is preceded in death by the love of his life, Gloria Hughes; his parents; a daughter, Linda Hughes; a granddaughter, Natasha Whittington; a great-grandson, Ryder Hughes; and siblings, Estelene Stuckey, Dorothy Clifton, Ruby Owens, Geneta Clover, Winston Hughes, Robert Hughes, Jr., Cotton Hughes, and Toots Hughes.

Left to cherish Austin’s memory are his children, Robert Mac Hughes and wife Gina, Brenda Jean Peery and husband Herschel, and Amy Lynn Hughes, all of Marietta; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Christine Hughes, of Marietta.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 28, at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel in Marietta with Lawrence Anderson officiating and Mike Buxton assisting. Interment will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.

Casket bearers will be Herschel Peery, Snowball Stuckey, Ronnie Voyles, Ricky Clifton, Johnny Fanning and Eric Hughes. Honorary casket bearers will be Austin’s grandsons, Robert Brown, Brandon Hughes, Nathan Hughes, Connor Williams, Ayden Stout, Corbin Casey, and Austin Payne.

A keepsake video is available through the funeral home.
