Marjorie Ann Hobbs, 99, longtime Marietta, OK resident, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital in Sulphur, OK.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta with Pastor Brett Alberda officiating. Services are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.

 
Marjorie was born December 14, 1923 in Coronado, CA to the late Benjamin Franklin and Hazel Anna (Taylor) Oliphant. She attended primary school at Lincoln and later attended the St. Agnes Academy, before graduating from Ardmore High School in 1941. She later furthered her education by receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, and later receiving her master's in school administration from East Central University in Ada. She was a 5th grade teacher, and later elementary principal in Marietta, from 1962 to 1992.
 
She married Roland Lee Brewster Hobbs on January 10, 1942 in Elk City, OK. Marjorie and Roland spent six months together before he enlisted in the United States Navy as a Seabee. He was away for 32 months serving in the South Pacific. During World War II many of the ladies back home served in various capacities. Marjorie moved to Fort Worth and later to San Francisco to work on planes and warships. She learned how to rivet and later was eager to share her experiences. She was a proud member of the Rosie the Riveter Association.
 
Marjorie was a charter member of the Eastside Baptist Church and was a member of the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Helen Madison, Hazel Maurine Oliphant, and Shirley Finelli; and brothers, Jack Oliphant and Ben Oliphant.
 
Those left to cherish Marjorie’s memory are her sons, David Hobbs and wife Susan of Ardmore, OK, Larry Hobbs and wife Judy of Sulphur, and Mark Hobbs of Marietta; daughter, Maryjane Sparks and husband John of Hennepin, OK; grandchildren, Jeff Hobbs, Kimberly White, Ryan Hobbs, Russell Hobbs, Rodney Hobbs, Jessica Alexander, Lauren Johnson Sparks, Kathryn Bishop and John Dillon Sparks;  great grandchildren, Lily Ann Grace Hobbs, Livia Kathryn Hobbs, Hunter White, Madalyn White, Deryn Hobbs, Hadyn Hobbs, Hudson Hobbs, Harper Hobbs, Avery Hobbs, Karsyn Hobbs, Huntley Hobbs, Hannah Hobbs, Caleb Hobbs, Eva Hobbs, Creede Alexander, Sam Johnson, Drew Johnson, Aubrey Jane Bishop, Will Bishop, Jack Dillon Bishop, Henry Sparks, Perri Jayne Sparks and Victoria Rose Sparks; and several nieces and nephews.
 
Casket bearers will be Jeff Hobbs, Ryan Hobbs, Russell Hobbs, Rodney Hobbs, Dillon Sparks and John Sparks.
