Joseph Charles Higle departed this world on December 12, 2023.
He was the son of Jeremy and Pamela Higle and beloved brother of
Titus and Isaac. Joseph lived a remarkable life, leaving behind
a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was born in Phoenix, AZ on January 29, 2003. His birth mother
is a part of the Pima tribe of the Gila River Nation. Due to
difficult circumstances, she chose for Joseph to be adopted by
the Higle family when he was born. He was delightfully received
into the Higle family when he was only one day old.
Joseph lived with his family in the high mountains of Asia for
most of his young life. He often talked with fondness about his
unique childhood experiences in Asia. His love of cultures,
cooking, jewelry, and art were all formed there. Joseph Charles
Higle literally has friends and family all over the world.
Joseph grew up in a diverse community where he developed a
strong sense of Christian values and faith. He learned to walk
and run among the beautiful peoples of South Asia and Thailand.
In the years living back in Oklahoma, he was nurtured by church
families in Marietta and Velma. He committed his life to
following Jesus at age 6 while living in Chiang Mai and his
father had the honor of baptizing him in a community swimming
pool, providing a bold witness to the community. Though he had
struggled with genuine questions about his faith, he had
recently affirmed his belief in Christ to his parents.
Joseph graduated from Marietta High School in 2021, where he
excelled academically, played in the band, and was involved in
student life. He had just completed his college prerequisites
and was set to begin the nursing program at Murray State College
in the coming weeks. He was very proud and excited about having
worked hard to achieve this goal. He was also very proud of his
work at Lake Murray Marina while he was a full-time college
student.
In his free time, Joseph enjoyed working out, running, hiking,
shopping, music, cooking, and playing with the family’s dogs. He
was known for his compassionate nature, and loyalty to his
family and friends. Everyone knew his infectious smile.
Joseph was deeply loved by his family and leaves behind memories
that will forever be treasured. He is survived by his parents,
Jeremy and Pamela; brothers, Titus and Isaac; grandmother,
Virginia Higle, all of Marietta, OK; uncle, Scott Planche and
wife Debbie of Lafayette, LA; aunt Monta Cochran and husband
Keith of Atoka OK; aunt Holly Buxton and husband Joe of Branson,
MO; cousins that he enjoyed hanging out with so much: Tyler,
Sophie, Josh, Kaylee, J.T., Dominique, Caleb, Ashlynn,
Brooklynn, and Bethanny, and his newest cousin Kollie Tommy.
He was preceded in death by his baby sister, Daisy Elizabeth;
grandfather, Tommy Higle; grandfather, Joseph Planche and
grandmother, Norma Planche.
Family night will be Tuesday, December 19th, from 6 to 8 pm at
Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
A funeral service will be held in Joseph’s honor at 10:30 a.m.
on Wednesday, December 20th, at the Marietta Public School
Auditorium with Pastor Shane Norton officiating and Bro. Brett
Alberda, and Joshua Cochran assisting. Interment will follow at
Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.
Casket bearers will be Scott Planche, Keith Cochran, Joe Buxton,
Caleb Buxton, Tyler Cochran, Joshua Cochran, Titus Higle, Isaac
Higle, and JT Broussard. Honorary bearers are Velma-Alma &
Marietta High School Classes of 2021 and friends and Velma-Alma
& Marietta Marching Bands and Alumni.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made
to a memorial fund in Joseph Higle's name at BancFirst in
Marietta.
We invite all friends, colleagues, and loved ones to join us in
bidding farewell to a remarkable individual who touched so many
lives. We shall always keep Joseph's memory alive in our hearts,
forever grateful for the time we shared with him.
