Services for George R. Clifton, 81, of Marietta, were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 8, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta, with his three sons, Steve Clifton, Paul Clifton and Jeff Clifton officiating.

Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.
 
Born January 30, 1927 in Springer, the son of Easterwood and Virginia Stafford Clifton, he died Sunday, October 5, 2008 in Lake Country Nursing Center, Marietta.

Mr. Clifton had been a resident of Love County for almost 60 years. He and Kathleen Huddleston were married September 4, 1948 in Gainesville, Texas. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Clifton served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from May 8 to November 26, 1945 and then reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from November 27, 1945 to July 16, 1948. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal in addition to the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Clifton was an avid hunter and fisherman and a very caring family man who also helped many other families throughout the community. During the 1950’s he was co-owner of B&G Grocery in Marietta. He later became general manager of the Cookie Shop, also in Marietta, and assisted in developing that establishment into a national business as well as a vital part of the business community. Mr. Clifton was a member of the Marietta Church of Christ.

 
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Clifton of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and JoEllen Clifton of Houston, Texas, Paul and Robin Clifton of Kaysville, Utah, and Jeff and Susan Clifton of Fairbanks, Alaska; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathie Clifton of Ardmore, Mary Kay and John Thompson of Marietta and Joan and Bruce Coldiron of Sweetwater, Texas; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia Snodgrass and Mary Ann and Lee Moss of Tulsa, and Daphne and Haskell Blancett of Silver City, New Mexico; 12 grandchildren, Dede Boaz and husband, Jon, Katie Clifton, Chris Clifton, Matthew Cody Clifton, Megan Goff and husband, Randy, Mark “Winchester” Clifton, Chad Thompson and wife, Michelle, Joe Thompson, Jason Coldiron, Jeremy Coldiron and wife, Chelsea, Phillip Clifton and Josh Clifton; and 11 great-grandchildren, Andrew Boaz, Faith Boaz, Paul Boaz, Kelly Clifton, Gavin Thompson, Mason Coldiron, Karleigh Coldiron, Cameron Coldiron, Phillip Coldiron, Noah Coldiron and McKenzie Coldiron.

 
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and two sisters.

 
Pallbearers were grandsons, Chris Clifton, Matthew Cody Clifton, Mark “Winchester” Clifton, Chad Thompson, Joe Thompson, Jason Coldiron, Jeremy Coldiron, Phillip Clifton, Josh Clifton, Jon Boaz and Randy Goff; and granddaughters, Dede Boaz, Katie Clifton and Megan Goff.

 
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Tom O’Connor and the staff of Lake Country Nursing Center for their untiring efforts.
