Dorothy Louise Clifton, 90, of Marietta, lived a long full life and passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was one of nine children born to Robert and Juanita (Embry) Hughes on January 15, 1931 in Marietta, OK.

Dorothy grew up in Marietta. On June 27, 1947, at the age of 16, she married the love of her life, Claud Monroe Clifton in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1992, just a few months after celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary. Dorothy lived most of her life in Marietta, however she did spend some time in Yuma, AZ and Madill, OK. She worked at the Pants Factory, was a Supervisor at the Cookie Shop, and was a Caregiver for several people. Dorothy had a kind and nurturing heart that guided her into her role as a caregiver.
She was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church. Dorothy was a firecracker and would tell you what she thought. She always said, “I do not want a visitation because if they can’t come see me when I am living, then they ain’t gonna stare at me when I am dead.”

Survivors include her sons, Ricky Clifton and wife Danna and Tony Clifton and wife Debbie, all of Marietta; daughter-in-law, Karen Clifton of Ardmore, OK; brother, Austin Roy Hughes of Marietta; sister, Geneta Clover of Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Claude Clifton, Jr.; a daughter, Betty Jane McKinney; brothers, Leonard “Toots” Hughes, Ernest “Cotton” Hughes, Winston “Buddy” Hughes, and Robert “Junior” Hughes; sisters, Estlena Stuckey, and Ruby Owens; and great-great-grandsons, Carson James, and Mason Leigh.

Graveside services for Dorothy are set for 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 25, 2021, in the Lakeview Cemetery of Marietta with Lawrence Anderson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Marietta.

Honorary bearers are her grandsons and Larry Clifton.
