Edith LaVerne (Wilson) Baker
Sep 15, 1935 - May 31, 2022

Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home
(permission granted)

Edith LaVerne (Wilson) Baker, 86, of Dallas, TX formerly of Thackerville, OK passed from this life on May 31, 2022. She was born on September 15, 1935, the daughter of Jewel (Larrabee) and J. B. Wilson.

LaVerne may have been born Edith LaVerne, and some of you probably knew her by one of those names, but to those who knew and loved her the most, she was either Mama, Mema, Aunt Verne, Murphey, Q-Tip, and Toots. She cherished “family time” above even her “personal time.” Family meant more to LaVerne than anything except her relationship to her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was the Christian cornerstone to her daughters while her husband G.C. “Doc” Baker, was growing his faith. Doc and LaVerne were married on May 16, 1953, in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1997.  LaVerne leaves behind a legacy of faith and love.

LaVerne’s past times include anything related to the Texas Rangers or visiting her favorite vacation spots the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming or the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, however nothing could hold a candle to the time spent with her family. She spent a better part of her 86 years growing and nurturing her family, simply doing what she loved the most. LaVerne’s family bids a brief “goodbye” to her till we see her again, until that day, and with glad hearts, we will sing, “I Will Meet You In The Morning.“ Mema will be fondly missed, and memories treasured.

Left behind to cherish her legacy of faith and her memory are her four daughters, Linda Kay Austin and husband Gill of Acworth, GA, Debbie Baker, Kathy Sutterfield and husband Terry, and Teresa Baker all of Mesquite, TX; grandchildren, Matthew Austin and wife Jessica of Canton, TX, Jonathan Austin and wife Bethany of Chapel Hill, TN, and Natalie Whitlock and husband Colby of Mesquite; and her eight great-grandchildren

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, G.C. “Doc” Baker; parents, Jewel and J.B. Wilson; and brother, Charles Wilson.

Casket bearers are Matthew Austin, Jonathan Austin, Gill Austin, Terry Sutterfield, Ernie Baker, Jacky Baker, and Michael Austin.

Services will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 a.m. with Minister Mike Hisaw officiating and Gill Austin assisting. Interment will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta, OK under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marietta.
