Poline (Ladner) Monkres of DeSoto, TX, departed this life on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas after a courageous fight with liver disease at the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 1 day.

Family will receive friends prior to service at the cemetery from 10-11 a.m. Graveside funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the Jimtown Cemetery in Jimtown, OK with Rev. Waylon Dancer officiating.

Poline was born on December 12, 1935 in Burneyville, Oklahoma to the late Mr. Sylvester "Choc" Ladner and Mrs. Audry May (Chambers) Ladner.

Poline grew up in Burneyville and attended school at Leon graduating with the Class of 1954. After graduating from high school, she attended Beauty College and became a professional Cosmetologist in Dallas, TX.

She then married her high school sweetheart James Pierce Monkres and they had two children, James "Jimmy" Pierce Monkres, Jr. and Paula Jane Monkres. They lived in Ardmore, OK, Bokchito, OK, Abilene, TX and Edmond, OK.

They moved to DeSoto, TX in 1967 where she began her career with the City of DeSoto. She loved her job working in the court system as Court Administrator and Associate Judge. After her retirement she continued traveling around the world with friends and family until her health no longer permitted her to do so.

She was involved in many projects that she continued working on after her retirement. She loved genealogy work, teaching computer classes, and helping people with their genealogy.

She was very proud of her Choctaw Indian Heritage and loved going back to her home in Burneyville, Oklahoma to spend time with her family and friends.

Poline was an accomplished artist and loved oil painting and sewing beautiful quilts by hand.

She loved the Lord with all her heart and strived to be a good disciple and always helping others.

Out of all her accomplishments in her life the one that shines the brightest is that she was the best Mother in the world. She will be dearly missed but will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

She is survived by her son, Jimmy Monkres of DeSoto, TX and daughter, Paula Monkres of DeSoto; sisters, Sue Taliaferro of Marietta, Grace Graham of Duncanville, TX, Frances Foster of Tilden, TX; sister-in-law, LaQuitta Ladner of Jimtown; numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
