Interment followed in the Jimtown Cemetery.
Born Saturday, January 17, 1931 at Courtney Flats, the son of George E. and Oma Elizabeth Hogue Ivins, he died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, May 4, 2014 in the Lake Country Nursing Center, Marietta. A resident of Love County most of his life, Mr. Ivins attended school at Courtney. He and Rosemary Denham were married in Gainesville, Texas on July 16, 1955.
Mr. Ivins served in the U.S. Army, and then while living in west Texas was a cattle rancher and rode horses. In addition, he had several other jobs including driller in the oil field, milkman for Tom Cooper Farms, truck driver in Fort Worth, Texas and an employee of WinStar World Casino. Mr. Ivins also enjoyed riding dune buggies. He was a member of Marietta’s Covenant of Grace Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a grandson, Mark Elliott; a great-grandson, Kaden Alford Ivins; a brother, Melvin Ivins; and a sister, Helen Hartman Betts.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Rosemary Ivins of the home; four children and spouses, Carolene (Eddie) Thompson of Leon; Cindy (Stuart) Farr and Otis Lee Ivins, Jr. (Rhonda), all of Little Elm, Texas; and Malinda Williams of Jimtown; a brother and sister-in-law, G.W. “Dub” (Linda) Ivins of Austin, Texas; a sister, Hattie Mae Welch of Marietta; 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Jeremy Wilson, Craig Wilson, Ash Williams, Aaron Williams, Gabe Parker, Brandon Hicks, Mikell Taylor and Roger Ivins. Honorary bearers were Eddie Thompson, Stuart Farr, Gary Williams and G.W. “Dub” Ivins.
