Born April 13, 1929 at Bishop Bottom in Jimtown, the son of Earl Robert and Jessie Hallum Hicks, he died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 in Mercy Health Love County. Mr. Hicks had been a resident of Love County most of his life.

He and Faye Johnson were married in Wichita Falls, Texas on August 10, 1947, and she preceded him in death on June 28 2002.

Mr. Hicks was a farmer/rancher and also worked as a tool pusher in the oil field. While attending school at Leon, he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He also liked to ride his horses and his dune buggy and go deer hunting. Earl treasured the friendships he made while working in the oil field. He attended the Rubottom Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Burney Hicks; sister, Peggy McEntire; granddaughter, Kacie Hicks; daughter-in-law, Sue Hicks; uncle, Bud Hallum; and two nephews, Gary Keith Hicks and Jeff Hicks.

Survivors include four sons and daughter-in-law, Randy and Mary Hicks of Burneyville, Lyndal Hicks of Overbrook, and Tony Hicks and Robin Hicks both of Rubottom; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Vernie Thompson of Leon; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Glyn and Virginia Hicks of Marietta and Gary and Linda Hicks of Lone Grove; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Auston Reed of Ardmore; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Cooper of Jimtown and Wanda Miller and husband, Miles of Ponca City; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; his companion, Thelma “Nig” Lawson of the home; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Steven Hicks, Brandy Hicks, Alan Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Bryan Thompson, Josh Hicks, Jerry Hicks, Dustin Hicks and Heath Hicks. Honorary bearers were Bill Hartman and Sonny Mobley.
