Children and families living in poverty lost a warrior on Wednesday,
October 30, 2013, with the death of Jackie Watson. Under her leadership
as director of Head Start, Big Five increased to serving approximately
900 children per year for three decades. Over 25,000 children in
Southern Oklahoma were served during her tenure.
The daughter of Floyd "Jack" Morgeson and Jessie Gonderman Morgeson,
Mrs. Watson was born April 4, 1932, in Henrietta, OK. She passed away
Wednesday at her residence in the Greenville Community at the age of
81.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013, in the
Eastside Baptist Church of Marietta with Pastor Brett Alberda
officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenville Cemetery under the
direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services. The
family will received friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the
funeral home.
Mrs. Watson graduated from Dewar High School in 1950 and attended
Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK. She and James E.
"Jim" Watson were married in Florence, AZ, on September 9, 1950, and the
couple moved to Love County to make their home in 1968. Mrs. Watson had
been a very active member of Marietta's Eastside Baptist Church as long
as her health permitted, serving as a Sunday School teacher and a member
of the choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James E. Watson;
and sister, Dorothy Pittman.
Survivors include two sons and
daughter-in-law, Dennis J. and Nancy Watson of Miami, OK and Brian Kent
Watson of Greenville; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Glenn
Corbin of Dewar; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a
great-great-grandchild.
Serving as casket bearers will be grandsons, Curtis Watson, Grant
Watson, David Watson and Chris Barrick; and Dale Harris and Jeff
Alexander. Honorary bearers are deacons of Eastside Baptist Church.

Born March 2, 1931, in Henryetta, Mr. Watson died August 28, 1994, in an Ardmore hospital at the age of 63. He was the son of James E. Sr. and Ottie Mae Schmidt Watson.
Mr. Watson, a resident of the Greenville community for the past 25 years, retired from the Department of Agriculture, Animal Damage Control, in 1989, after 33 years of service. He married Jackie Morgeson September 9, 1950, in Florence, Arizona. Mr. Watson was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and men’s Sunday School class teacher for 25 years. He also served on the Greenville School Board for 25 years, was a trustee for the Greenville Cemetery, Fire Chief of the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department and president of the Love County Volunteer Fire Department Association.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Watson of the home at Greenville; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Suzie Watson of Ardmore, Dennis and Nancy Watson of Miami, and Kent Watson of Oklahoma city; two brothers, Lester Watson of Florida and Tony Watson of Dewar; nine sisters, Irene Lewis and Charlene Dawson of Dewey, Arizona, Lorene Carter and Esther Dansky of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Sadie Caswell of Mayer, Arizona, Ruby Rackley of Tempe, Arizona, Carol Thorpe of Madera, California, Frances Stengel of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Mary Watson of Henryetta; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery with deacons of Eastside Baptist Church serving as pallbearers. Services were directed by the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home.
