Services for Roy Hardy Murhpy, 79, of Gainesville, Texas, were held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 21, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta, with the Rev. Dwight Hawkins officiating, assisted by Bro. Randy Hale.

Interment was in the Eastman Cemetery, Eastman community.

Born November 14, 1926, at Eastman, near Marietta, the son of Richard Coleman and Maud Keller Murphy, he died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at his residence. A 1946 graduate of Meadowbrook High School, Mr. Murphy then served in the U.S. Army, stationed in both the United States and Germany. He and Erma Lee Page were married August 3, 1951, in Ardmore. Mr. Murphy was an employee of Lang Transit Company in Lubbock, Texas, until May 1953 when he went to work for West Texas Gas Company, also in Lubbock. He retired from Energas in Amarillo, Texas, after 34 years of employment. The couple had been residents of Gainesville for the past 10 years. Mr. Murphy’s hobbies included reading, fishing and hunting. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Lee Murphy of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy Lee and Connie Murphy of Canyon, Texas; a daughter, Sue Murphy of Lakewood, Colorado; two sisters, Lorene Gifford of Wichita, Kansas, and Odie Larmun of San Diego, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bonnie Lang Sodd; and five brothers, Debs Murphy, Burl Murphy, Travis Murphy, William Murphy and Jack Murphy.

Pallbearers were Butch Sykora, Brent Sykora, Lewis Foster, Bob Sharp, Bill Page and Buford Rackley. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Self, Bob Brownlee, James Gipson, Dr. P.C. Hickman, Virgil Brecheen and Harold Davis.
