Harold Dean Montgomery of the Eastman Community was born June 9, 1933,
in Sentinel, OK, the son of William Millard and Elsie Lou Willis
Montgomery, He passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in the Mercy
Health Center, Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 74.
A resident of Love County most of his life, Mr. Montgomery was a
farmer/rancher. He and Rhoda Carlene Keltner were married in Ardmore,
OK, on December 2, 1960. A 1953 graduate of Meadowbrook High School, Mr.
Montgomery attended Southwestern Bible College in Oklahoma City, as well
as area Vocational Schools. He worked in the oil fields while in school,
then in later years returned to that field of work. A veteran of the
Korean Conflict, Mr. Montgomery served three years in the U.S. Army. He
worked in telecommunications while stationed in Korea. He also was
stationed in the states of Washington, New Jersey and Texas during his
years of service and was awarded the Marksman (Rifle) medal, Expert
(Carbine) medal in addition to the Good Conduct medal. Mr. Montgomery
was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Although he followed several lines of work, his love was farming. .
.custom farming and being a wonderful steward of the land. He enjoyed
having daily contact with the people of his community and was honored to
serve as the first Fire Chief of the Eastman Volunteer Fire Department.
A deacon and longtime member of the Abner Pentecostal Holiness Church on
Oswalt Road, was a member of the First United Methodist Church of
Marietta and was currently attending the Marietta Assembly of God
Church. He was proud of the fact that he was able to go on a mission
trip to Venezuela to help ministers with the building of a church. Mr.
Montgomery was also proud to be an organ donor. He and his family want
to make sure that everyone is prepared for Heaven and to meet the Lord
at any time.
Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles
Montgomery; great-grandson, Dakota Bartling; brother-in-law, Thurman
Ward; niece, Sheryl Montgomery Harris, and nephew, Greg Montgomery.
Survivors: wife, Carlene Montgomery of the home; 3 daughters and
sons-in-law, Miriam & Thomas Ashley of Pryor, OK, Monical & Greg Parker
of Rubottom, OK and Melba & Brad Thurman of Sherman, TX; 3 brothers and
sisters-in-law, Eugene Montgomery of Ardmore, OK, Carroll & Lorene
Montgomery of Marietta, OK and Randy & Mary Lou "Cookie" Montgomery of
Ardmore, OK; 2 sisters & brother-in-law, Billie Ward of Sivells Bend, TX
and Jane & Harold Willingham of Lone Grove, OK; 6 grandchildren,
Elizabeth Bartling, Christopher Ashley, Gabe Parker & wife, Carla,
Daniel Parker, Cody Thurman and Colton Thurman; 4 great-grandchildren,
Ryleigh, Ridge & Rachel Parker and Colt Bartling; uncles and aunts,
Calvin Montgomery of Marietta, OK, Margie Langford of Ardmore, OK, and
Opal & L.D. Meeks of Ardmore, OK; many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Officiating: Rev. Jim Duck, Rev. Roger Klopfenstein, Sister Zedna Moore
and Rev. Les Bussell.
Casket bearers: Jeff Willingham, Robert Williams, Ronnie Peoples, Jerry
Montgomery, Terry Ward, Jimmy Greenwood and Larry Don Hull. Honorary
bearers: Meadowbrook Class of 1953, Calvin Montgomery, Pat Hockersmith,
Harold White, Buford Rackley, Terry Hyman, John Kennedy, Don Jackson,
Wayne Allison, Butch Tucker, Rick Brannan and Burl Bone.
