Services for William O. “Sonny” Shankles, Jr., 75, of the Shady Dale Community will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 29 in the Shady Dale Baptist Church with Jerry Harper officiating, assisted by Reverend John Sconce.

Interment will follow in the Burneyville Cemetery.

Born June 15, 1943 at Burneyville, the son of William Otis “Buster” and Geneva Kitchens Shankles, he died Tuesday, June 26, 2018 in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta. A lifelong resident of the Marietta area, Sonny graduated from Turner High School with the class of 1961. A rancher and team roper, he was the Central Rodeo Association Champion Team Roper in both 1977 and 1980, roping with his son Kent and Bruce Mobley. Sonny also worked at Marietta Sportswear for several years. He and Sheilah Dianne Sconce were married in Gainesville, Texas on May 12, 1999. Sonny loved to go fishing, especially with his grandson Zack, and play golf. He also enjoyed camping at Lebanon and cooking fish for family and friends. Sonny was a member of the Shady Dale Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents and son, Van Zimmerman, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Sheilah of the home; son, Kent Shankles and wife Tonja of Jimtown; two daughters, Tonya Spanglo and husband Bobby of Marietta and Tiffany Zimmerman of Ardmore; three brothers, Charles Shankles and wife Sue of Shady Dale, Don Shankles and wife Cissy of Granbury, Texas, and Troy Shankles and wife Anita of Burneyville; three sisters, Sylvia Stewart of Ardmore, Linda Stewart of Burneyville, and Vickie Shankles of Lake Texoma; eight grandchildren, Kenja Shankles, Lindsey Ramon, Kilee Vinson, Zack Spanglo, Crystal Hicks, Courtney Hicks, Elizabeth Spradlin, and Jessie Zimmerman; four great-grandchildren, Grayson Ramon, Makynle Spradlin, Lily Zimmerman, and Alyssa Spradlin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Stewart, Doug Kirk, Brent Sykora, Ricky Teafatiller, Luke Vinson, and Mark Muller. Honorary bearers are the ladies at Dr. J’s office (Ardmore Cancer Center) and his camping and fishing buddies.

Visitation for the family and friends will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, June 28 at the funeral home.

Services for Sheilah Dianne Shankles, 66, of Marietta, OK, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel of Marietta with John Liddell officiating.

Interment will follow in the Burneyville Cemetery, Burneyville, OK, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
 
Sheilah was born September 5, 1954, in Plain Dealing, Bossier Parish, LA, the daughter of John Custom and Viola (Clark) Sconce. She passed away on Monday, November 17, 2020, at Mercy Health Love County in Marietta.
 
Sheilah was a lifelong area resident. She worked for the Marietta Sportswear for several years before going into the house cleaning business. She had her own house cleaning business for thirty plus years. Sheilah married the love of her life, William O. "Sonny" Shankles on May 12, 1999, in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2018. Sheilah was a breast cancer survivor at the age of 28. She had many hobbies she enjoyed doing with the love of her life. They enjoyed camping at Lebanon, golfing, fishing and were also members of the Shady Dale Baptist Church. Sheilah was once the Trout Derby Queen at the Blue River in Tishomingo, OK. Sheilah also liked going to WinStar to play the slots and loved listening, singing, and dancing to any type of music. She was known as a kindhearted woman who was always smiling, and she never met a stranger. Visiting with family and friends brought her joy. Although she had many interests, the most important thing in her life was the time she would spend with her kids and grandkids.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sonny Shankles; by her parents; and a son, Van A. Zimmerman, Jr.
 
Survivors include her daughters, Tonya Spanglo and husband Bobby of the home, and Tiffany Zimmerman of Ardmore, OK; sister, Carolyn Liddell and husband Wesley, Jr. of Thackerville, OK; brothers, John Sconce and wife Pat of Shady Dale, David Sconce and special friend Dessi of Thackerville, and Paul Sconce and wife Stacy of Marietta; grandchildren, Zack Spanglo of the home, Kilee Vinson and husband Jake of Enville, OK, Courtney Hicks of Lawton, OK, Crystal Hicks of Denton, TX, Elizabeth Spradlin and husband Heath of Marietta, and Jessie Zimmerman of Ardmore; great-grandchildren, Mila Vinson, Makynlee Spradlin, Alyssa Spradlin, and Lily Towner; in-laws, Linda Stewart, Charles Shankles, Sylvia Stewart, Vickie Shankles, Don Shankles, and Troy Shankles; and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as casket bearers are Bobby Spanglo, Zack Spanglo, Jake Vinson, Fred Potter, Parker Liddell, and Heath Spradlin. Honorary bearers are members of the Shady Dale Baptist Church.

Time for viewing will be from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
