Graveside services with military honors for Claude James Bone, 87, of Marietta, were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 3, in the Burneyville Cemetery, Burneyville with Ron Elmore officiating.
Born March 18, 1922 at Pike, the son of George Washington and Maude E. Kitchens Bone, he died Thursday, October 1, 2009 in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.
A resident of Love County all of his life, Mr. Bone attended school at Pike. He was a farmer and carpenter. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Bone served in the U.S. Army with the 91st Chemical Company in the Central Pacific, Western Pacific, Southern Philippines and Eastern Mandates. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, AP Service Ribbon and four Bronze Service Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and two Bronze Stars, and the American Defense Service Ribbon and one Bronze Star. He and Vivian L. Barrick were married February 4, 1946 in Gainesville, Texas. His hobbies included spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, reading and OU sports. Mr. Bone was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian L. Barrick Bone of the home; son and daughter-in-law, James Euel and Judy Bone of Oklahoma City; three daughters and sons-in-law, Claudia and Kenneth Thacker of Lone Grove, Paula and Luke Hall of Jimtown, and Susan and Joe Bell of Marietta; 10 grandchildren, Sandra Henderson, Shelley Thompson, Jamie and Jason Reed, Ben and Kodi Bone, Melane and Andy Scates, Leah and Joe Ivy, David and Karla Bell, Amy and John Paul Alexander, Jeff and Kelly Hall and Christie Wharton; and 13 great-grandchildren, Nathan Henderson, Wyatt Thompson, Eric Thompson, Nicholas Reed, Clayton Reed, Taylor Ivy, Travis Scates, Austin Bell, Mya Alexander, Rylee Alexander, Colton Hall, Eli Wharton and Andrew Bone.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Vernon Bone and Euel Bone; and a sister, Billie Russell.
Honorary bearers were John Bone, Jimmy Dale Bone, Jerry Bone, Marion Bone, Cal Bone, Burl Bone and Johnny Euel Bone.
This obituary included a picture of Mr. Bone.
