Larry Dennis Blankenship, of Courtney, OK was born on April
18, 1946, and left this life May 17, 2023, at the Mercy Hospital
in Oklahoma City at the age of 77.
Funeral services will be held
at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 22, 2023, in the First Baptist Church
in Marietta with Mike Johnston officiating.
Interment will
follow in the Belleville-Bourland Cemetery in Courtney.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00p.m. at
the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home in Marietta, OK.
Larry was the son of Oscar “Jack” and Opal (Brintle)
Blankenship. He graduated from Ringling High School and then
attended Murray State College and Oklahoma State University.
Larry married Sherian Barnes on August 17, 1972, in Ardmore, OK
and the two spent more than 50 years together.
Larry owned and operated LB Auction Co. along with his family
for over 40 years. He took a lot of pride in preparing every
auction for every client. Larry was very active with all the
area 4-H clubs, FFA chapters, Volunteer Fire Departments, and
premium sales and donated his time and auction skills to their
fundraisers while expecting nothing in return. He loved
assisting kids in preparing livestock animals for shows and
loved attending the shows. Larry was an active member of The
United Methodist Church in Courtney. One of Larry’s favorite
things to do was taking road trips with his wife, even when the
destination was unknown.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a
great-granddaughter, Lynlee Roberts.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Sherian
Blankenship of the home; sons, Larry Don Blankenship and wife
Gina of Courtney and Kerry Blankenship of Courtney;
grandchildren, Justin Blankenship of Marietta, Paige Roberts and
husband Austin of Marietta and Taryn Blankenship of Courtney;
great-grandchildren, Taden, Kason, and Beau; sister, Jacqueline
Grant of Courtney; numerous nieces, nephews, along with many
other family and friends.
Casket bearers are Ronnie Austin, Randy Wade, Scott
Carpenter, Brent Wade, Randy Jackson, and Randy Thompson.
Honorary bearers are Waylon Brown, Jason Bone, Matt Sicking, the
Marietta FFA Chapter, Jerry Kerr, Stanley Austin, Scottie
Austin, Ronald Rhoades, James Carpenter, David Hull, and Harvey
Stewart.
Memorial contributions can be made to The United Methodist
Church in Courtney by mailing to 10995 Belleville Rd., Ringling,
OK 73456.
