Mamie E. Nichols The Mulhall Enterprise Friday, December 29, 1899 Submitted by: Debby Cook
Mamie E. Nichols, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Nichols, was born in Illinois November 3, 1879. During the winter of 1893 she was converted in January and joined the M.E. church. She lived a faithful Christian until her death, which occurred December 15, 1899. The afternoon before her spirit took its flight she was heard to sing "Jesus paid it all." Again she would shout "Hallelujah, it is done." In her suffering she was consigned to her Maker's will. Her desire was to meet in glory loved ones who had gone before. The funeral services were conducted at the Victor school house, and was attended by many sympathizing friends.
Mamie was one who gained the friendship of all who knew her. Was pleasant in her manner and winning in her way.
The body was followed to the Victor cemetery by a procession more than a half mile in length. Thus was the last resting place of one loved by many, to wait the morning of the resurrection.
There are memories that never die from the roses that so sweetly bloom. God's garden is decked with roses of many colors. Sometimes when we have placed on memory's dear a rose so sweet, God will pluck that rose so near to our heart. Thus while we love it more than the other, is why the rose never dies in our love for it. Then from our midst has one gone so dear in memory. The vacant chair is never filled.
We long to meet Mamie, the rose in our home, which is gone, yet while memory lasts, never will be forgotten, in heaven above where all is love, where parting is never more.
