Opal Creola Steger

Opal C. Steger, 91, departed this life September 12, 2009 at Grace Living Center in Edmond, OK. She was born April 4, 1918 in Fallis, OK, the oldest child of the late Abe and Maude Brothers. She attended the early day schools of the vicinity, namely: McKinley in Meridian, OK.
In 1935, she was united in marriage to the late Daniel Bose "Red" Steger. Out of this union 13 children were born. Opal C. Steger was preceded in death by 5 infant children; daughters Bonita D. Steger and Karen C. Steger; sons Richard L. Steger and Ralph J. Steger; sisters Maxine Saunders and Mildred Pickett; brothers Abraham Brothers, Daniel Brothers, and Samuel Brothers; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
She loved being a devoted wife and mother. She extended her love to several families as a domestic worker. Those families grew to love her and admired her work ethic and well raised children and grandchildren.
She was baptized at an early age and as an adult attended Gravel Hill Baptist Church for many years.
She leaves to mourn daughters Shirley Williams and Phyllis (Owen) Lowe; sons Tommy (Willa) Steger and Timothy Steger; one daughter-in-law Yvonne Steger; sisters Davetta Brothers and Johnella Brothers; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Smith Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery, Meridian. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie, OK. Visitation will be Saturday, 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
