Jim Willbanks

Born: March 21, 1915
Died: December 10, 2008

Jim Willbanks was born May 27, 1934, the only child of Audra and Wilma (Johnson) Willbanks in Oklahoma City. He died February 8, 2015.

He graduated from Guthrie High School with the class of 1952 and then attended Phillips University on a baseball scholarship. He married Phyllis Davis and from this union one son, Mike, was born. Most of their married years he worked for the First State Bank and Trust starting out as teller and ending as Senior Vice President when he resigned in 1980. He then worked 10 years for the Prudential Insurance Co. until he had to resign due to health problems.

During his years of good health he was a member of the Guthrie Lions Club, served as chairman for the Logan County Board of Health for 28 years, was a member of the Guthrie Golf & Country Club where he was a past president and also served on the board of directors for 2 terms of the club, member of the First Christian Church where he has served as a deacon. At the time of his death he was on the Advisory Board of Directors for F&M Bank in Guthrie. Jim loved to hunt, fish and play golf. One of his joys was to introduce young boys to gun safety and the love of duck hunting. He also enjoyed playing Santa Claus to many young children.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Phyllis, son Dr. Mike Willbanks and wife Kim of Edmond, five grandchildren: Madison and Matthew Willbanks of Edmond, Forrest and wife Sarah Klein of Tulsa, Braden Klein of Dallas and Rachel and husband Simon Shingleton and their two children, Jude and Archer of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by cousins: Mary Jane Bartley, Jacquetta Blehm, and Jack Carroll and wife Marilyn all of Edmond and Garnetta Payne and husband Mark of Broken Arrow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 402 East Noble, Guthrie, OK 73044, Companion Hospice, 1310 East Oklahoma, Guthrie, OK 73044 or the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 12 -­ 8 PM at Smith-­Gallo Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 2 PM at First Christian Church, Guthrie, OK. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
