Cleda Hoy Underwood

Died: March 14, 2015

Cleda Hoy Underwood, 101, passed away March 14, 2015, to continue her journey with the Lord. She was born May 15, 1913, in Cassoday, KS, to Frank and Glory Hoy.

Cleda enjoyed playing basketball and participating in dramas and musicals during high school. She met Loy Underwood, the love of her life, at the Cassoday train depot where he was the telegraph operator. They married on November 10, 1934, at El Dorado, KS. They moved to Cushing, OK, where Loy worked for Cities Service. Cleda was a super homemaker. They then moved to Guthrie where they began a family and eventually retired. They were members of the First Methodist Church. Cleda enjoyed singing in the choir, playing canasta, traveling, and was a member of UMW. She loved spending time with Carrie, their granddaughter. She loved watching baseball, and on her 100th birthday celebration, held at the Sports Museum, Richard placed her chair on the home plate.

Cleda is preceded in death by her husband "Whitey"', her son Larry, her sisters Judy Reed and Virginia Harmon and her brothers Marshall and Kenneth Hoy.

Cleda is survived by her son, Joe Underwood and wife Sheryl of Guthrie, her granddaughter Carrie Underwood of Verdigris, OK, two great- granddaughters, Baylor and Addison Nelson of Verdigris, OK, and many other loved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Cleda's life will be held at a graveside service at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie, on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at 2:00 PM. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

There will not be any visitation.

We wish to thank the caretakers at Golden Age Nursing Home and Companion Hospice for their wonderful care.
