Pauline was born on June 10, 1925 in Guthrie, OK, to Verman May and Ethel Brock May of Guthrie. She died November 20, 2012, in Weatherford, TX.
Pauline married Melvin Eugene "Smitty" Smith on December 16, 1945, in Guthrie and was a good and faithful wife to him for 60 years until he passed away in February of 2006. Pauline attended Guthrie schools and graduated from Guthrie High School with the class of 1943. After graduation, Pauline built airplanes at Tinker Field during World War II as a "Rosie the Riveter". Later she worked as a bookkeeper for Margaret’s Beauty Salon and Dress Shop. When she and her husband Smitty started Smitty’s Auto Service in 1960, she worked as the bookkeeper for the business until it closed in 1978. During these years, she was a homemaker as well. She committed her life to making a beautiful and comfortable home for her family.
Pauline spent several years as a den mother for the Cub Scouts when her children were young. She and Smitty were charter members of the First Capitol Sams Club, holding membership from 1987 until 2004. She committed her life to Christ and became a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Guthrie at a young age, and she retained her membership there until her death. Her love for others and commitment to the Lord pointed people to Him.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula E. Hood and husband Dr. Tommy Hood of Weatherford, TX; her sister-in-law, Lora Lu May, of Guthrie; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will all miss her dearly.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Eugene "Smitty" Smith; one son, Brett Eugene Smith; and two brothers, Clifford May and Dean May.
Visitation for friends and family will be held Sunday, 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
