Chuddie Smith, 92, was born October 8, 1923 in Wanette, OK, to James Edward Smith and Odessa (Hammers) Smith. He passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 in Guthrie.
Chuddie went to school in Sulphur, OK, where he wrestled and was quarterback for the Bulldogs. He graduated from Sulphur High School in 1943. He went to wrestle for Syracuse University. He served in the Armed Services as a X-Ray and Lab Technician in Salt Lake City, Utah. He came to Guthrie in June of 1947 to work as a X-Ray and Lab Technician for Dr. R.F. Ringrose and continued with the Ringrose family for more than 40 years.
After he retired he enjoyed working with bees and provided honey for many.
He married Dorothy Kerr on April 29, 1948, and they raised three daughters in Guthrie.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy. Daughters, Ruth Ann Zisser (David) of Denver, CO, Carol Smith of Guthrie, and Linda Miller (John) of Guthrie. Four grandchildren, Amy Gooch of Denver, CO, Russell Thomas (Lisa) of Denver, CO, Adam Miller (M’Lis) of Dubuque, IA, and Melissa Wells (Bryan) of Guthrie. Eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Peggy Norton of Sulphur, OK, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Funeral services for Chuddie will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the First Christian Church in Guthrie with Gene Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie.
Visitation will be held Friday, 12:00PM-8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons Bible, P.O. Box 54 Guthrie, OK, or the charity of your choice.
