Funeral services for Billy Joe Smith, 78, of Guthrie, OK will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 6, 2010 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike DeMoss of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Bill was born on November 27, 1931 in Guthrie to Joe and Emma (Powell) Smith. He passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 in Guthrie.
Bill married Verna Shappell in Perry, OK on May 1, 1953. He retired from Schlumberger Well Services after 30 years. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Guthrie, was an exceptional carpenter, and loved wood-working as well as watching sports and reading.
He is survived by daughter Debbie Crane and husband Carl of Earlsboro, OK; grandsons Patrick Boles of Shawnee, OK and Christopher Boles of Oklahoma City, OK; granddaughter Christina Jo Boles; sister Hester Gooch of Guthrie; sisters-in-law Evelyn Coe of Perry, OK and Deloris Myers; brother-in-law John St.Clair of Perry; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; wife Verna Smith in 2003; daughter Billie Teresa Branson; and sister Virginia Fulbright.
Visitation will be held at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home of Thursday, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
