Barney Max Smedley

Barney Max Smedley, 89, beloved father and husband, died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Coles Nursing Home in Guthrie, OK. He was born September 17, 1918 in Sharon Springs, KS to Sam and Alice Smedley. He married Evelyn Marie Biggs on May 22, 1941. He is survived by his wife Evelyn Marie Smedley of the home; children Raymond Smedley and wife Kathleen of Guthrie, Melvin Smedley and wife Debbie of Guthrie, and Nadine Brawner and husband Bill of Edmond, OK. He is also survived by grandchildren Cindy Waits of Blanchard, OK; Kevin, Michael, and Phillip Brawner of Edmond; Jared, Jason, Brian, Earl, Justin, and Darren Smedley of Guthrie; and fourteen great grand-kids and seven great-great grand-kids.
Barney spent many years farming. In 1951, Barney went to work at Oklahoma Furniture Factory where he worked for over 20 years before working as a carpenter up until his retirement. During his retirement, he kept busy repairing lawnmowers and traveling.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Gene Owen of Companion Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. Visitation will be held Monday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Condolences may be emailed to smith-gallo@sbcglobal.net
