LeRoy "Pa" Shipman passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 after an extended illness with his family by his side. He was born May 2, 1920 in Guthrie, OK to Bert Henry and Altha Pearl Gramley Shipman.
LeRoy married Norma Ruth Eubanks on November 22, 1941 in Guthrie. They celebrated 63 years of marriage before her death on September 9, 2005. Also preceding him in death are daughters, Norma Lee Shipman (1945) and Pati Mahar (2010); sisters, Stella Irene Shipman and Nellie Bostwick; and brother, Ernest Shipman.
He is survived by his brother, Merle Shipman and wife, Norma Jeanne of Guthrie; daughter, Bertha Harraman and husband, Gene of Guthrie, and their children, Ken Harraman and wife, Jennifer of Edmond, OK and Gina Harraman Davis and husband, Kenny of Guthrie; son, Dr. Jim Shipman and wife, Cynthia of Claremore, OK and their children, Dr. Jeff Shipman and wife Dr. Staci Shipman of Edmond, Katie Shipman Alcorn and husband, Steve of Tulsa, OK and Betsy Shipman of Claremore; son-in-law, Paul Mahar of Guthrie and Pati’s son, Aaron Fike of Stillwater, OK; great grandchildren, Preston and Andrea Harraman and Max Shipman of Edmond and Jill, Luke, Beau and Cal Davis of Guthrie as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Pa was a farmer at heart and enjoyed raising cattle in addition to his 31 years as a wood craftsman at Tinker AFB. He always had a large vegetable garden which he loved to share.
The family would like to thank Dr. Krehbiel and the staff at Logan Medical Center for the excellent care Pa received. We would also like to thank Mike Gartman, Laura Dutton and the staff at Willow Creek Nursing Home and we feel blessed for the heartfelt love and care they provided during his final years.
Graveside services under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie with Pastor Scott Foster of First United Presbyterian Church and Chaplain Gene Owen of Companion Hospice officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church, 102 E. Noble Ave., Guthrie, OK 73044.
Visitation will be Monday, 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
