Melvin E. Sears passed away on November 16, 2009. He was born January 17, 1923 to Ella and Everett Sears in Lawrie, OK. He served in the Armed Forces in 1942; after retiring, he became a locomotive engineer and served 38 ½ years, retiring in January 1983. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Fraternity for 49 years reaching the 32nd degree.
He had two daughters from his first marriage and then married Kathleen Sadler on June 5, 1974.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Cecil Sears and Leroy Sears.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen; two daughters Jeanne Nutter and husband Loren and Kaye Toensfeldt and husband John; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters Ella Mae VanOrden and Vernona Ham; two brothers Calvin Sears and Raymond Sears; and a host of other loved family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 20, 2009 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Gene Owen of Companion Hospice officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Visitation will be held Thursday, 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
