Edmond Woman's Father, R. M. Smith, Dies at 108 Years
Rufus M. Smith, one of the oldest residents of Oklahoma, died Wednesday at the age of 108 in Guthrie.
He was born in Illinois July 11, 1834, moved to Texas in 1888 and came here in 1907. He died at the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. W. F. Wanzer.
Surviving children are six daughters, mrs. Ida Bishop, Shawnee; Mrs. Maude Hood, Edmond in whose home he has frequently visited; Mrs. Bettie Blackburn, Ardmore; Mrs. Myrtle Mitchell, Electra, Texas; Mrs. Rose Rosse, Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Mary Rafferty, Harrisonville, MO., and four sons, Charles SMith, Durant and George, Rufus and Bob Smith of Guthrie.
Smith's wife died in 1926.
