Lois Gail Spillers, age 76, passed from this life to her eternal home on Saturday, January 27, while surrounded by her family at Integris Hospital in Edmond.
From her birth on May 14, 1941, Gail nourished the people around her with love, faith, and kindness. She was born in Mulhall to Earl and Iva Shafer and was the 5th in a family with six children. At a young age, Gail developed a love for music and learned to play the piano and to sing with her soft angelic alto voice. She had a diverse taste in music and her accumulation of music recordings was enormous. Gail also loved to cook and her family and church were partakers of many wonderful meals that she loved to share. But her love of music and cooking paled in comparison to the love that she had for her family.
Married at the age of 15, Gail was the mother of 4 sons, grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren. Her generosity toward her family was always a priority for her and she was always willing to help anyone who had need, often at her own sacrifice. Most importantly, the faith in Christ that she reminded her family of was the most invaluable part of herself that she continually shared. Gail loved the church and was active in teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. We are certain Heaven's choir has just embraced a beautiful new harmony.
Gail enjoyed working for many years at Banc First of Guthrie and retired from Citizen's Bank of Edmond where she was responsible for all accounts payable. The friendships throughout her working career brought her much pleasure. Her genuine concern for others created a light that shone brightly wherever she went. Even as her health declined, her care givers were often heard complimenting how "sweet"she was to them.
Gail was proceeded in death by her parents and older siblings; 3 sisters; Jean Lawyer, Marge Anthis, Carol Little, and one brother; Paul Duane Shafer, as well as her husband, Tom's son, Larry Spillers and great- granddaughter, Kate Womack. Gail is survived by her husband of 20 years, Tom Spillers of Guthrie; her son, Paul Castle and wife, Mara of Guthrie; her son, Gary Castle of Ponca City; her son, Mark Castle and wife, Cindy of Bixby; and her son, Stephen Castle and wife, Valerie of Guthrie. She is also survived by her younger sister, Sharon and husband, Jerry Wamsley and sister-in-law, Carolyn Shafer as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Remnant Church, 2423 W. Noble, Guthrie, with minister Terry Carris officiating. Burial will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
The family would also like to extend a time of visitation at Smith Gallo Funeral home on Tuesday, January 30, from 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gail's name to Remnant Church.
