Charles Rowayne Rice

Charles R. "Wayne" Rice, 84, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2008 in Perry, Oklahoma. Services were held on Monday March 3, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Smith Memorial Chapel in Guthrie. Services were under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. C.R. is survived by his wife, Leona, of the home in Perry, his daughter, Kathy Greer; son and daughter-in law, Sam and Holly Rice; son and daughter-in-law, Spencer and Ellen Rice; brother and sister-in-law, Clayton E. and Betty Jo Rice; sister, Aliene Anderson; all of Guthrie, and sister, Dean Kirsch of Franklin, Kentucky. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Michelle Siebert and her husband Mat, Cindy Owen and her husband Steven, Brad Rice and his wife Becky Jason Lum and his wife Mindy, and LeeAnn Rice. There are also ten great-grandchildren: Anya, Zoe, Cord, Blake, Brettt, Noah, Jax, Cortlen, Nicole, and Jason Jr. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Rosa V. Rice, in 1989. He married Leona Musick of Perry in 1990 and they had over 17 happy years together. Leona’s six children, numerous grandchildren and great grand-children also mourn his passing.
C.R. grew up at Crescent, was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps as a teenager, and served honorably in the U.S. Army. He worked in the oilfield his entire life, first as a driller and then as a drilling superintendent. He retired at age 60 and had a great time fishing, caring for his yard and garden, attending OU football games, and trading cars.
