Nancy Carol Payne

Born: May 22, 1938
Died: February 14, 2016

Nancy Carol Payne was set free February 14, 2016. She is now in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. She was born in Coyle, Oklahoma on May 2, 1938, to Marion and Josephine Shellhammer.

A graduate of Coyle High School, she enjoyed playing basketball and many other activities. She married her valentine, Vernon Payne on Dec. 15, 1956. They served together in ministry over fifty years to churches across Oklahoma. Her life touched many people. She led countless bible studies in churches and in her home. One of her favorite ways of ministry was to teach fifth and sixth graders in Sunday school. She loved and laughed easily and often, with an “I love you,” always on her lips. Her love for her Savior and family could easily be seen. Her final years were spent battling the disease of dementia, yet she was always ready to laugh.

She is survived by her two children and their spouses: Roger and Tina Payne of Springfield, Mo. and Barry and Carrie Cogburn of Guthrie, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her siblings and spouses, Bobby and Sharon Priess, Larry and Twila Prough, Charles and Marilyn Jarred, Charles and Anita Shellhammer, Richard and Alice McEwen, Dina Shellhammer; grandchildren, Nash, Bethany, Paige, Erin, Bryce, Lynni, Ethan; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Noah, Kade, Brogan, Kooper, Lane, Keller; and, as her grandson put it, a ton of other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernon Payne, and one brother, Ronald Shellhammer.

Funeral services will be held at Woodcrest Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 19, 2016. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetary. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home in Guthrie.

Visitation will be at Thursday, February 18, 2016, from 12:00 P.M .- 8:00P.M.

The casket will not be open during services.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Companion Hospice and Golden Age Nursing Facility and their staff. They made Mom’s life much richer.
