William Argus Owen
Born: August 29, 1916
Died: August 18, 2010

William Argus "Bill" Owen, 93, passed away August 18, 2010 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born August 29, 1916 to Judy and Jess Owen in Lamar, Arkansas.

He was a Highway contractor for the U.S. Postal Service providing mail service delivery to various Post Offices in Oklahoma. These mail routes served offices from Oklahoma City to Gotebo and Oklahoma City to Muskogee. He ran these routes for over 50 years and never missed one day of service.

He also farmed in the Mulhall / Guthrie area for most of his life. He was a Master Mason over 60 years and was recently honored for being the oldest living member of the Oklahoma State Bank. He was a previous member of the Noble Avenue Baptist Church, the Community Church of Guthrie and current member of the Meridian Church.

He married Anna May Lewis in 1936 in Watonga, OK and they had celebrated their 74th anniversary this year.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters; Reymoth Tontz, Lois Miller, Ruby Gibson, Evelyn Revis , one brother Harold Owen, three grand children; Tamara Sue Owen, Kay Starks, and Joey William Owen.

He is survived by his wife, Anna May, of the home; three sons, William Ray and wife Virginia of Mesquite, TX, Philip and wife Janet of Fort Gibson, OK and Dale and wife Cynthia of Perry, OK; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law Leo Revis and one sister-in-law Eloise Owen and a host of nephews, nieces and other family members.

Viewing will be 2-8 PM, Sunday August 22. Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 23, 2010 at Smith Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie, OK.
