Evelyn Louise Newman, 85 passed away peacefully Monday, November 16, 2020 with family at her side. She was born to Willis Rogers and Edith Chez, August 15, 1935 in Los Angeles, California.

She was raised by her precious mother Edith and "Daddy" Amos Wilson. She graduated from Garden Grove, California and began work at C.R. Anthony in Bellflower, California. She married the late Robert Lee Newman, July 23, 1955. They lived together in Bellflower, California before transferring to Bethany, Oklahoma and then Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Evelyn was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for 50 years. She at times had entertained the congregation as she played the marimba and she loved singing in the church choir. Mrs Newman was employed by the Guthrie Public Schools for many years and retired as Secretary to the Superintendent.

Evelyn was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her three girls and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grandma. She decorated for every holiday, from top to bottom, with "zest" as if it was the last. She was a baker in the kitchen, a master seamstress at the sewing machine, as well as a self taught musician playing by ear, the accordian, marimba, and piano.

She is survived by her three daughters, Beverly Taunton and husband James, of Florida, Linda Lyle and husband Mark, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Susan Hastings of Edmond. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Tyler Taunton of California, Trey Taunton of Florida, Jordan Chavez of Yukon, Oklahoma, Kelsey Lyle of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Megan Calvert of Oklahoma City, and DJ Calvert of Edmond and five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn (6), Tanner (2 1/2), Nova (2), Cruz (1), and Mia (due Feb).

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.

The family requests that everyone bring a jacket or a blanket to the funeral service because of the cooler temperatures expected.

Visitation will be held Friday, 12:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
