Curtis "C.J." James Nelson

Curtis James (C.J.) "Cap" Nelson was born November 9, 1926 in Guthrie, OK to Clyde James and Minta Ann (Curtis) Nelson. He graduated from Guthrie High School in 1944 and then attended Oklahoma State University where he met his college sweetheart and wife, Cecelia “Celia” Ann (Pickett) Nelson. They were married on November 28, 1948. He was a member of First Christian Church for over 75 years.
C.J. served in the Army in California and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was also in the Army Reserve at Ft. Sill in 1950. He was in the car business with his father and brother at C.J. Nelson Oldsmobile for many years. He retired from the car business and then began a career in real estate in the mid 1980’s. He was a Mason, a lifetime member of Albert Pike Lodge #162, and received his 32nd Degree KCCH in 1985. He was also a member of the American Legion for over 65 years.
C.J. loved all sports and was a fan of the Guthrie Bluejays, OSU Cowboys, and the Chicago Cubs.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Arthur Nelson, and nephew Arthur Nelson, Jr.
C.J. is survived by wife, Celia Nelson; daughters, Mindy Jones of Fountian Hills, AZ and Christie Fincher and husband Paul of Guthrie; and granddaughters, Krista Fincher of Guthrie and Jenna Jones of Prescott, AZ. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Linda Nelson of Guthrie and niece Debbie Hardesty and husband Jay of Olathe, KS.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at First Christian Church with Dr. Dennis Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Visitation will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 402 East Noble Avenue, Guthrie, OK 73044.
