Tonkawa - Leslie E. Mayes, resident of Tonkawa, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, in Integris Blackwell Regional Hospital. He was 91.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 23, in the Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie with the Rev. Dr. Richard Thomasson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Dugger Funeral Home in Tonkawa.
Leslie E. Mayes was born May 13, 1912, in Guthrie, the son of Richard and Della Batch Mayes. He graduated from Guthrie High School and attended Oklahoma A&M College. He moved to Tonkawa in 1948 owning the Firestone dealership during the 1950s, then working for the Massen Tool Company. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Tonkawa. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling and growing tomatoes.
Survivors include his son, Larry Mayes of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Marilyn Biggerstaff of Nowata; a brother, Leonard Mayes of Perry; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Phern Denny Mayes; his parents; and an infant son.
