Mary Joella (Brown) Maker was born in Perkins, OK on September 29, 1933, to Clark and Macie Brown. Mary Jo was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away on April 8, 2018 in Guthrie, OK.

Greeting her in heaven were her parents, brothers Ed and Richard Brown, father and mother-in-law Harold and Esther Maker, granddaughter Teresa Michelle Maker, and nephew Jameel Alkadhimi.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years, Delbert, her sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Carole of Guthrie, Steve and JoAnn of Trenton, SC, Mark and Pat of Wellston, OK, and daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Boyd Longnecker. Cherishing their memories are her fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Surviving brothers and their spouses are Carl and Cynthia Brown of Los Lunas, NM, and Allen and Sheri Brown of Edmond, OK. Surviving sisters are Carolyn Hamilton and husband Cecil of Harrah, OK, Nelda Brown of Edmond, and Martha Evans of Guthrie.

Mary Jo was a lifetime member of West Guthrie United Methodist Church. She loved her church and devoted many hours serving her Lord. She was a fifty year member of the Oklahoma Home Community Education organization, and a founding member of Town and Country HCE. Mary Jo volunteered for many activities in Guthrie such as the Banjo Festival, then Bluegrass Festival. She participated in the Territorial Christmas and Christmas walk for many years. Mary Jo was known for her green thumb, cooking skills and her talents as a seamstress. Sharing her skills with others was a joy for Mary Jo. She taught many young people how to cook and sew during the time she was a 4-H leader.

Services were held at First United Methodist Church in Guthrie on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Burial was at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie. Services were under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
