Mass of Christian Burial for Alva Samuel Major, 99, of Coyle, OK will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 12, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guthrie, OK with Reverend Denis Hanrahan officiating. Burial will follow at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Pallbearers will be nephews: Bobby Priess, Ray Priess, Jim Ruhl, Sam Ruhl, David Ruhl, Jesse Beck, Jr., Robert Beck, and Bobby Smith.
Alva was born on January 12, 1909 in Payne County, OK. He died Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Colonial Estates in Guthrie.
Alva was raised in the Pleasant Valley area near Coyle and was a farmer most of his life. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Lucille (Priess) Major of Coyle, three sisters-in-law Twila Priess of Guthrie, Mary Ruhl of Kingfisher, OK, and Catherine Beck of Kingfisher, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alva is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
