Funeral services for Lester Henry Landis, 86, of Edmond, OK will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Guthrie Christian Church, Guthrie, OK with Reverend Clifton G. Chappell of Calvary Church, Stafford County, VA officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Lester was born on October 22, 1925 in Lamont, OK to Vernie and Clara Lorene (Naughter) Landis. He passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012 in Oklahoma City, OK.
Lester married Barbara Jean Stanbrough September 17, 1957 in Perry, OK. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Edmond. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, doing woodworking, and playing golf. His true passion was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved fishing with his sons and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Barbara Jean Landis of the home; two sons Bernie Landis of Guthrie and Lester Landis, Jr. and wife Deborah of Houston, TX; two daughters Vernie May Anthis and husband Darrel and Sonya Swain all of Guthrie; three sisters Lorene Chappell and husband Warren, Eleanor Hoel, and Norma Deane Jarnigan all of Guthrie; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Lester is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
