Funeral services for Nellie May Jones, 97, of Guthrie will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 at Davis Funeral Chapel in Guthrie with the Rev. David Nolen officiating. Burial will follow in Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Jones was born April 18, 1905 in Guthrie, Oklahoma Territory to Charles Fred and Disey Ann (Ray) James. She went to her eternal home with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie.
Nellie had lived in Guthrie most of her life. She held several interesting jobs over the years, ending with her retirment from Tinker Air Force Base. She was a long and faithful church member and a member of First Southern Baptist Church for 45 years. She had been unable to attend for the past eight years due to her health. Nellie and all her sisters, along with their father before his death, would meet at the Territorial Restaurant for lunch on Wednesday for many, many years. Nellie did not have any children, but she was a very special aunt to her nieces and nephes.
She married Albert Jones on Dec. 31, 1929 in Liberty, Mo. He preceded her in death Oct. 29, 1946. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Elmer James, four sisters, Edith Sanderson, Bernice Thomason, Regina Pannell and Dorothy Stout and two nephews, Charles Sanderson and Jimmie Stout.
Survivors include nephews Don Thomason of Ardmore, Lawrence James of Crescent, Clarence James of Guthrie, Gary Stout and Don Stout of Guthrie, Vernon James of Kansas City and Maurice James of Gladstone, Mo.; nieces Dorothy Thomason Cole of Edmond and Retha Sanderson Hatfield of Columbus, Kan.; and numerous great-nephews, great-nieces and great-great nephews and nieces.
Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon and Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m.
