Susan Kay Johnston of Guthrie went to be with the Lord on Nov. 10, 1999. She was 51 years old.
She was born July 29, 1948 to Helen and Chester Mock in Guthrie and lived there all her life. She married her husband, Tommy, on June 14, 1968 and the two made their home in Guthrie.
Tommy and Kay met in high school and began dating when they were 16 years old. They had two children, Brian Johnston and Karen Johnston.
She was a devoted wife, mother and daughter, who spent more time doing for others than she did anything else. After graduating from Guthrie High School in 1966, she attended Central State College in Edmond, working toward a teaching degree.
She worked at the Guthrie Daily Leader in the composing department in 1967. She later began work as the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) secretary where she dedicated 17 years to serving God.
Most recently, she began working at Central Christian Camp and Conference Center in Guthrie.
Johnston spent countless hours with her family and loved playing games and hosting family gatherings. She was well known for her cake decorating skills, cookin, sewing and love of animals.
She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Guthrie. She was a member of the Guthrie Chapter No. 12, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband Tommy of Guthrie, children Brian Johnston and fiance Maggie Ellis and Karen Johnston, grandson Mark Boardman, mother Helen Mock, sister Mickey Mock, mother-in-law and father-in-law Dorothy and Joe Johnston and many family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father Chester Mock, her grandmother Ollie Lindsey and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Mock.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12 at First Christian Church in Guthrie. Rev. Gary Weeks will officiate.
Burial will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Guthrie.
