The funeral for Pauline V. Jernigan, 97-year-old Enid resident will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, at Henninger-Allen Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Steve Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, OK at 2:30 p.m.
She was born March 20, 1909, in Coyle, OK to Grover V. and Strella (McKay) Martin. In 1915, the family moved to Barton County, MO near Lamar where they farmed 11 years. They moved back to Oklahoma in 1926. She graduated from Coyle High School in 1928, then attended summer school at Oklahoma A&M.; She taught school in rural Logan County.
She married Lawrence Jernigan March 30, 1931 in Edmond. She worked for JCPenny in Guthrie for five years. The couple moved to Enid from Anadarko in 1950 and operated Jernigan’s Texaco Service Station for 24 years. He died April 20, 1977.
She then went to work as a bookkeeper for Clifton Cooper Tire for several years. She is a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a past matron and life member of Ruth Chapter No. 447 Order of the Eastern Star and Enid Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by one daughter, Marla Zaloudek and husband Bob of Enid; one son, Robert M. Jernigan and wife Judy of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Ron Luken-baugh and Cheryl Holmes, both of Enid, Don Pilgrim, Tom Pilgrim and Carla Jernigan and Robert M. Jernigan Jr., all of Oklahoma City, and Lori Maxwell of Tulsa; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Martin and Billy Martin; two sisters, Sara Crowell and Ruth Kinney, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church with the funeral home acting as custodian of the fund. Condolences may be made online at www.enidwecare.com. (Paid Obit 9-8-1)
